Dr. Jose Cohen is a Diplomat of The American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and a Fellow of the American College of Surgery.
Dr. Cohen was trained in General Surgery, and Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He has been a practicing OB-GYN physician at Valley Baptist Medical Center and Director and President of Valley Women’s Clinic since 1982. He is also an active attending at Harlingen Medical Center. Dr. Cohen is an active member of the Valley Baptist Medical Center staff and has served as Past Chairman of the OB/GYN department, and in multiple other Medical Staff committees.
As a certified specialist in OB/GYN, Dr. Cohen specializes in every phase of a woman’s health, performs office surgery such as laser, electrosurgery, cryosurgery, and colposcopies. Annual women’s health maintenance for gynecology: prevention and screenings, with in house available blood lab, Urodynamics, bone density and mammograms. Dr. Cohen has special interest in evaluation and treatment of urinary incontinence, bladder voiding and urethral profiling. In addition, Dr. Cohen has interest in the clinical management and treatment of the infertile couple: specializing in infertility counseling, artificial insemination and semen washing.
Dr. Cohen performs major Gynecological surgical procedures such as: abdominal, and laparascopic hysterectomies, major gynecology cancer surgery and operative laparascopy, and multiple procedures for treatment of urinary incontinence, with special emphasis in vaginal surgical procedures.
Dr. Cohen has always been in the forefront of new advancements and procedures in his field of practice. Introducing, for the first time in Harlingen: laparascopic assisted vaginal hysterectomy and Tension Free Vaginal Tape, a surgical treatment with excellent results for the treatment of urinary incontinence.
Susan Boone was raised in South Dakota, where she joined the US Army Medic Corps and served for 4 years. When finished with the Army, Susan graduated from the University of Louisville, Kentucky in 1984 with a ADN degree. From there she worked in Tertiary Center, Louisville Kentucky for 14 years. Susan then proceeded to receive her BSN from the University of Brownsville in 2000 and MSN from Texas Tech University and University of Texas, El Paso in 2002. In 2002 Susan was certified by the American College of Nurses Midwifes. She has worked in women’s health since 1984 specializing in Obstetrics, adolescent health, family planning and colposcopy.
Susan’s’ greatest accomplishments are her 4 children.
Belinda Ramirez was born and raised in San Benito, Texas. She completed high school in three years and graduated with the class of 2000 from San Benito High School. Belinda’s educational accomplishments include an Associate Degree of Nursing in 2007 and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing in 2009 at the University of Texas at Brownsville. She then received a Master Degree of Science in Nursing from Frontier Nursing University in Hyden, Kentucky in 2012. Belinda practiced as a labor and delivery nurse at a local hospital for 5 years. She is certified by the National Certification Corporation and obtained her advanced practice license by the Texas Board of Nursing in 2012. She is a proud mother of two daughters Mia Marie and Madison Rose.

Betty Marlow Friedman was born in California. She graduated from high school, Rift Valley Academy, Kijabe Kenya in 1971 and went on to college at Dallas Baptist University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1975. She worked at Presbyterian hospital and then went on to work at Parkland Hospital in Labor & Delivery, in Dallas, Texas. She then went on to the University of Texas South Western Medical School to receive her certificate as a Nurse Practitioner in Women’s Health and graduated in 1980. Thereafter, she worked for Greater Dallas Family Planning Clinics until December 1980 at which time she moved to Harlingen. She has worked at Valley Women’s Clinic since January 1981. She is currently married to David Friedman.
